The Farm

Long story short
In 2017, John came to live with Nina on her family’s farm in South Harrison Township, NJ. From then on, the potential of the meadery was realized. Rag and Bone Meadery LLC grew out of their love of the land, their passion for historical mead making, and the desire to gather their friends together to enjoy it all.

A new roadside farm stand for 2024
Since the early nineties, Nina’s family has kept a small roadside farm stand where they sold their fresh summer vegetables. In 2024 John and Nina revamped the design. They not only sold vegetables, but also cut flower bouquets, free ranged eggs, herbs, and firewood.

The Hives
Since 2017, John has kept honeybees on the farm. In 2025, we are still going strong! It’s an incredible and rewarding experience to keep bees, and we’ve learned so much. In 2021 we employed the help of our friend Tim of Hive Permaculture to help us grow our bee yard.

Woodland Managment
2021 was the year we began our concerted effort to be better stewards of our farm’s woods. We practice “worst first” forestry, which targets dead, infested, and invasive trees as a priority to be harvested. This ensures a healthy ecosystem that still leaves habitat for animals. We harvest firewood and mill choice trees into live edge lumber. A 30inch wide black locust fell and we used it to build our tasting room’s bar.
